[Acupoint Lianquan]In the pit of upper edge of hyoid body in the middle of the neck.
Meaning:
Lian: Clear Quan: Spring
The two blood vessels below the tongue are called Lianquan in ancient times. It is at the upper margin of the laryngeal prominence, close to the Lianquan vessels.
Point: CV23
Location:
With the patient in a sitting position and patient’s head slightly tilting backwards, the point is directly above the Adam’s apple, and on the midpoint of the upper border of the hyoid bone.
Function:
Benefit throat and transform phlegm (help with various throat disorders). Promote Yin and body fluid (for salivation problems).
Indication:
Good for various throat disorders along with vocal cord disorders like aphasia caused by stiffness of the tongue, swollen and painful tongue, increased salivation, harsh voice, sudden aphonia, swallow difficulty, inflammation of the throat.
[Acupoint Yamen] in the middle of the nape, between the spinous processes of the first and the second cervical vertebra.
Meaning:
Ya: mutism Men: door
Yamen acupoint may either cause or treat mutism. It is likened to a two way door to mutism.
On the midline of the nape of the neck, 0.5 cun directly above the midpoint of the posterior hairline.
1.Stimulate speech (speech disorders, development problems, cerebral palsy, stroke).
2.Calm the spirit (mental disorders).
1.Yamen is the best acupuncture point for speech disorders like sudden aphonia, inability to speak due to the stiffness of the tongue.
2.Benefit Psychosis, epilepsy (expel internal wind).
3.Local disorders: Headache and stiff in the neck.
2. Upper Limb Movement Disorder
[Acupoint Dazhui] See 5, Alzheimer's Disease.
[Acupoint Shenzhu]between the spinous processes of the 3rd and 4th thoracic vertebrae.
Meaning: Shen : body Zhu: pillar
Shenzhu(GV12) is below the third thoracic vertebrae and connects upwards with the head and neck when downwards with the back and the lumbar vertebrae, like a pillar of the body.
Location:
On the posterior midline, in the depression below the spinous process of the 3rd thoracic vertebra.
Functions:
1. Dispel pathogene and lower fever.
2. Tonify Lung (strengthen Qi of Lung).
3. Calm mind and spirit.
Indication:
1. Benefit fever, cough, asthma, back carbuncles.
2.Good for Headache, the stiffness of the spine, pain in the back.
3. Epilepsy, psychological disorders.
[Acupoint Quchi]Bend the elbow at a right angle, and this acupoint is at the midpoint between the head of elbow transverse stripes and the lateral high bone.
Meaning:
Qu: crooked chi:pond.
Quchi(LI11) is located on the depression at the elbow like a pool when the arm is bent and this point is inside it.
With the elbow flexed, the point is in the midpoint between the lateral end of the transverse cubical crease and the lateral epicondyle of the humerus.
1.Clear heat and fire ( Yangming channel).
2. Main point for diseases of the head, face and the five sense organs, such as swollen and sore throat, toothache, redness and pain in the eyes, often used with Hegu.
3. Local problems: Help for the flow of qi and blood in upper arm. So, it is also used for elbow pain, stiffness; especially for tennis elbow.
4. Febrile disease;
5.Rubella, eczema, carbuncle, wind rash, dry heat, itching skin.
6.Hypertension
7.Paralysis of the arm,pain and weakness in the elbow;
8. Psychosis;
9. Abdominal pain, diarrhea.
[Acupoint Hegu] See 6, Parkinson's Disease.
[Acupoint Waiguan]at 2 cun above the transverse stripes on the back of wrist, and between radius and ulna.
Meaning:
Wai: lateral Guan: Pass
Waiguan(TE5) is at an important place on the lateral aspect of the forearm like a pass.
On the dorsal aspect of the forearm, 2 cun above the transverse crease of the the dorsum of the wrist, on the connecting Yangchi(TE4) and the tip of the elbow between the ulna and radius.
1.Dissipate wind and reduce inflammation.
2.Move Qi (pain in arm, wrist joint, migraine).
3.Regulate Shaoyang (Alternating chills and fever).
1.Waiguan is the main point for headache (migraine), pain in the cheek, redness, swelling and pain in the eyes, tinnitus and deafness.
2.Pain in the hypochondriac region.
3.Febrile disease.
3. Lower Limb Dysfunction
[Acupoint Huantiao] Lie on your side and bend your knees; the acupoint is at the intersection of the outer third and the inner third of the line between high point of the greater trochanter of femur and the sacral hiatus.
Meaning:
Huan: A ring Tiao: Jump
Huantiao is on the hipjoint, which is the pivot for jumping.
Point: GB30
With the patient lying on the side with the upper hip and knee bent, the point is at the junction of lateral 1/3 and medial 2/3 of the line linking the prominence of greater trochanter and the sacro-coccygeal hiatus.
Functions:
1.Remove obstruction from channel (wind, damp, cold from channel).
2.Strengthen lower back and legs (especially around hip).
3.Supplement Qi and Blood (brings qi and blood to the area).
1.Huantiao is major point for Sciatica.
2.Treat diseases of the lower extremities: atrophy or paralysis in the lower limbs, and hemiplegia.
[Acupoint Fengshi] In the middle of the lateral thigh and at about 7 cun on the horizontal transverse stripes.
Meaning:
Feng: Pathogenic wind Shi: Market
“Market” means gathering and dispersing. Fengshi is an important point for removing the pathogenic wind.
Fengshi is located on the midline of the lateral aspect of the thigh, 7 cun above the transverse politeal crease.
1.Expel wind (wind damp: invading channel; internal wind: stroke; wind heat: invading blood).
2.Strengthen bones (legs , good for atrophy of legs).
3.Regulate Qi and blood in channels (in channel and legs).
1.Good for atrophy or paralysis in the lower limbs, beriberi.
2. Relieve itching of the entire body, used with Quchi acupoint.
3.Relieve herpes zoster.
[Acupoint Zusanli] See 4, Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI)-------Amnesia
[Acupoint Jiexi] In the pit between the two tendons at center of the front horizontal transverse stripes of dorsum ankle joint flush with the tip of lateral ankle.
Meaning:
Jie: Separating Xi: stream
Xi refers to minor depression on the body surface. This point is in the anterior articular depression of the ankle joint.
Point: ST-41
At the midpoint of the transverse crease of the ankle joint, between the tendons of m. extensor digitorum longus and hallucis longus.
Functions:
1.Support spleen qi and transform damp.
2.Clear stomach heat.
3. Calm the spirit.

[Acupoint Xuanzhong] at about 3 cun above the ankle tip of the lateral foot on lateral calf, and at the front edge of fibula.
Meaning:
Xuan: Hanging Zhong: bell
Xuanzhong is above the lateral malleolus, where children in ancient times used to hang a bell.
Point: GB38
3 cun above the tip of the external malleolus, on the posterior border of the fibula.
1.Dispel wind and damp from the channel (apoplexy, neck pain).
2. Clear Gall bladder heat (hypochondriac pain, abdominal distension).
3.Clear marrow heat and nourish yin (connected with kidney yin, bone inflammation).
1.Xuanzhong is main point for stiffness and pain of the neck, distending pain in the chest and hypochondriac region.
2.Xuanzhong is also most distal point on GallBladder channel to treat neck disorders.
3. Benefit dementia,poor concentration, mental retardation, migraine, stroke.
4. Xuanzhong is influential point for Marrow: (benefit the sinews and bones) a wide range of disorders characterized by weakness, flaccidity, contraction and pain of the limbs.
5.Local disorders: Atrophy or paralysis in the lower limbs.
For those who suffer facial paralysis, additionally take Dicang, Jiache, Yingxiang, Xiaguan, Sibai, Yangbai and a few other acupoints.
For those who suffer incontinence, additionally take Guanyuan, Qihai, Zhongji, Sanyinjiao and Dachangshu and a few other acupoints.
